HOW SHE WAS ASKED:
Kim is a junior this year. The dance was just about a month after school starting so it was getting down to just a few weeks before the dance. The way she was asked was something we will remember forever and something I want my boys to do one day.
We were in Park City at the knee doctors…there was a senior boy John who had a soccer knee injury also he was also there that day seeing the same doctor. We were in the waiting area. This waiting area was for several different offices so there were lots of people around. John came over and was talking with Kim about their knees and that he was going to need surgery and as he was walking away he stopped about 5 feet away from and asked (loudly) Kim has anyone asked you to homecoming? There was silence everyone was watching her and she was panicked to be put on the spot and I think a little shocked that he would be asking her like that when all her friends had been asked in fun creative ways. She said no…then he asked “will go with Collin?” she said “you are asking for Collin?” He said “ we are doing blind dates. He is asking a girl for me and I am asking someone for him! It will remain a secret, a blind date until the day of the dance and then we will know who our dates are.” Kim was excited and said “YES!”
So knew Collin and they were good friends which took pressure off her and she was excited that he did not know and that she also did not know anyone else who would be going in the group. She communicated with John about what color of dress she would be wearing and he let her know the date details. She got a tickle out seeing Collin in the halls flirting with him and knowing he had no idea about being her date.
THE NIGHT OF THE DATE:
The night of homecoming his friends brought him to the door blind folded. I had all the girls at our house line up with Kim when he took off the blind fold…he stood there shocked and said ALRIGHT I HAVE 5 DATES!!! He was on the spot then he said well I am guessing Kim because we are at her house…she stepped forward and said yes and he was said OH YEAH!! He said “nice work John thanks!”
They went on their date…they went to Provo to the Olive Garden then to the dance and to a friend to watch movies. She wore this stunning red dress another borrowed from our friend Miss Utah Christina Lowe!
Ok back to the rest of the night and getting ready for homecoming…we had 6 of Kims friends all show up at 3:30 to all get ready together…they had to be ready by 5. I was craziness!! Thank goodness Kelli came to help with hair and curled Taylor’s hair because I did Riely’s, Tristin’s, Kim’s and Cassie’s hair and makeup! They looked beautiful and it was so fun. I loved every minute of it…we had moms, little sisters, grandma Suzanne, Aunt Stefannie, Kim’s niece Sydney, and dates all show up…there were about 20 total. It was chaos and so much fun…just perfect!
After Kim’s group left, Tristin’s group arrived and they were picked up in a LIMO it was so big it could not fully turn the corner to our house! Taylor Williams (her and Timipi her Mom work at the deli with me) was my nephew Kody’s date. Time goes so fast…it was weird seeing all of them standing in front of the limo all so beautiful it reminded me and felt just like yesterday when it was my junior prom and Stefannie and her dates were all picked up in a limo.
NOTE: As I was recording this I was talking with Kim. It has only been a year since last homecoming which was her first date…since that time she went on 6 other date dances. We could not recall most the details from the dances…such as how she was asked, what they did they were all kind of jumbled. So we committed to recording the details as they happen…we were able together to remember the basic details, but point is it is just one year. Time goes fast, journal these details as they come. One day these will be good memories of her High School years
